1983 Guide Badge Book - Ulster Folk Badge
Do five clauses, including at least one clause from each section.
I
1) Play a folk tune on any instrument of your choice.
2) Teach a folk song to your Patrol or Company.
3) Perform a solo jig, reel, or set dance, or teach your Patrol or Company a simple team dance.
4) Tell a story about Cuchullain ,Finn MacCool, Oisin, The Children of Lir, Deidre, or similar subject approved by the tester.

5) Cook a traditional dish, e.g. soda bread, potato bread, oatcake, Irish stew, or other dish agreed by the tester.
6) Make a mat, a collar, or an edging strip in crochet lace, incorporating roses or shamrock motifs.
7) a) Embroider an article with interlaced or other traditional design, or
b) Make an article, using drawn-thread work, or
c) Make an article from patchwork.
8) Knit a garment using three different traditional Aran patterns.
9) Make a harvest knot, St. Brigid's cross, or a traditional 'corn-dolly'.
III
10) Find out the meaning of twenty different local place names and explain them to the tester.
11) Collect at least six pictures, or make drawings of places, which illustrate life in your area through the ages since 1800.
12) Collect at least six pictures or make drawings to illustrate regional variation in everyday things, e.g. cottage and farmhouse architecture, spade designs, gates and gateposts, thatch, harnen stands.
13) Read a chapter of Irish Folkways by E. E. Evans (Routledge and Kegan Paul) or other book approved by the tester, and discuss it with the tester.
