1987 Brownie Badge Book - Road Safety Badge


1) Plot a safe route showing the crossing places for one of the following:

a) Home to school.

b) Home to brownie meeting place.

c) A friend's home to your home.

d) A friend's home to school.

Walk your chosen route with the tester.

2) Know the Green Cross Code and explain it.

3) Explain the meaning of the following words: ;Pavement, kerb, vehicle, traffic, pedestrian, stationary car, right of way, T-junction, pelican crossing, zebra crossing, subway, foot bridge.

4) Tell the tester how to cross the road using people who help, e.g. policemen/women school crossing patrols, etc.

5) a) Make a collage or poser or leaflet illustrating a safe crossing place, e.g. footbridge, subway, pelican crossing, zebra crossing, clear road, etc.

b) Know how to walk safely on the road:

i) where there is a pavement.

ii) Where there is no pavement.

iii) In the dark.

6) Tell the tester what you must do if a stranger starts to talk to you.
