1921 POR - Nature Lover Badge


Show a knowledge of one of the following: 

Know the haunts of at least 20 birds in the locality, and be able to describe their characteristics, songs, nests; or Know the habitat of 80 plants.  Be able to recognize them, know their time of flowering, methods of propogation, etc.

Know 10 trees by their leaves, fruits and twigs, and be able to recognize them at 200 yards' distance.

Spend half a day in a nature ramble and describe what she has observed during the time (Must show real observation).


For Town Guides: 

Must know what trees, birds and animals are to be found in the parks, public gardens, etc. in the neighbourhood.  Be able to recognize them and know their habits.

Know 10 trees (as above for Country Guides).

Know six constellations and their positions in the sky on or about 1st February, 1st May, 1st August, 1st November, between 9 and 10 p.m.

2) Recognise 15 birds in the field, by appearance and call notes, know their haunts, nests and habits; or

Be able to recognize 80 different plants, know their habitat, flowering season and method of seed dispersal; or

Keep a weather chart for a month, and know something of clouds and what they portend; or

Take six photographs of wild animals or birds from life, and have a general knowledge of their life and habits; or

Know the four constellations grouped round the Pole Star, and their relative positions in December, March, June and September, and know six other constellations visible in winter and six visible in summer.

4) At examination explore a given area (not previously studied) and say what creatures appear to live in it.
