1995 Guide Badge Book - Holiday Badge

Note: This badge must be tested by someone holding a Holiday Licence or Camper's Licence.
Take part in a Guide Holiday of at least two consecutive nights - this may be a Youth Hostelling trip.
1) Bring to the test a letter from the Guider in Charge of the holiday saying that you have:
a) Taken part in the planning of the holiday.  This would include deciding on the theme, programme and menus and finding out about places of interest near the holiday home/youth hostel.
b) Kept your personal belongings tidy during the holiday.
c) Helped your Patrol with the following:
* laying and clearing the tables at meal times
* preparing, cooking and serving meals
* washing, drying and putting away the crockery, cutlery and pans
* keeping the holiday home clean and tidy.
d) Helped plan and lead the worship during the holiday.
2) Compile a collection of items to illustrate the various activities which you enjoyed on your holiday.  This might take the form of a scrapbook or diary using photographs, maps, craft items and leaflets.
3) Explain to the tester how jobs, tasks and responsibilities were allocated to the Patrols.
4) Discuss with the tester your ideas about what to look for when choosing a place to go on a Guide Holiday e.g. type of accommodation, possible activities, safety equipment and suitable activity wear.
5) Know what to do in case of a fire in the holiday home/youth hostel.
6) Demonstrate simple first aid for treating cuts, stings, bruises and burns.

2005 Guide Badge File - Holidays Badge


To complete this badge, your stay must last at least two nights.

1) Join in the planning of a Guide holiday.  With the rest of the group going away, discuss:

* What you all want to get out of the holiday

* The area where you would like to stay and possible venues

* How long you will go for.

2) Plan and agree:

* A suitable venue for the holiday (a member of the local Outdoor Activities Team must approve this).

* A programme for the holiday, including activities and places to visit

* Duties and responsibilities for all group members.

3) Know what to do in case of fire in the venue.

4) Be able to use simple first aid for treating cuts, stings, bruises and minor burns.

5) Take an active part in the holiday and fulfil duties and responsibilities as agreed.
