1995 Brownie Badge Book - Communications Badge

Choose three of the following:
1) Act or mime a scene from a recent Brownie event you have attended.
2) Out of talking range, send and read three short messages in semaphore or Morse.
3) Make a tape-recording of the sounds of five different animals.
4) Write or dictate a letter, poem or prayer and read it to the tester.
5) Look at magazines that you might buy.  Tell the tester how they are the same, how they are different and which you prefer.
6) Show that you can set and record on video your favourite television programme.
7) Show how you are able to use Ceefax or Teletext to find out:
a) news headlines
b) the weather forecast
c) television programme times.
8) Make a short recording of a story or magazine article you would like to share with a blind person of your own age.
9) Learn the manual (finger) alphabet and be able to:
a) tell the tester your name
b) ask the tester her/his name and understand her/his reply.
2009 Brownie Badge Book - Communicator Badge

Choose and do three of the following.  Discuss with and show the tester what you've done.
* Act or mime a scene from a recent Brownie event you have attended.
* Take part in World Thinking Day on the Air, or another special amateur radio event.
* Know how two-way radios, such as those used by the police, ships and aeroplanes, can be useful.
* Be able to spell your name and home town using the phonetic alphabet (a=Alpha, b=Bravo, c=Charlie and so on.
* Write or dictate a reading, poem or prayer then read it aloud.
* Learn the finger-spelling alphabet or other recognized non-verbal communication and be able to:
- 'say' your name.
- ask someone their name and understand the reply.
* In a language other than your own:
- say your name.
- order some food and drink
- count to ten
- say hello and goodbye.
* Pass on a message clearly using a phone.  Show how to use a payphone or a mobile phone.
* Show five types of body language, for example feeling happy, sad, angry, fed up or confused.
* Make a poster, audio-recorded or video-recorded advert for Brownies.
* Send an email or letter to the tester saying what you would like to do on Brownie camp or holiday, and what you enjoy about Brownies.
* Using your Brownie web safe code, take part in a live web event, such as World Thinking Day on the Internet.
