1921 POR - Choral Patrol Badge


This badge may be sewn on to the Company or Patrol colours, where at least two-thirds of the Company have passed the following tests: 

For 1921

1) Sing four of the following, of which three must be part songs: 

a) England (unison) by Sir Hubert Parry

b) The Song of Milking (unison) by Sir Frederick Bridge

c) The Best of Rooms (2 parts) by Charles Wood

d) The Ride of the Witch (2 parts)

e) My Land (two parts) by Sir Charles Standford

f) The Flowering Manger (three parts) by P C Buck

g) Elfin Song (three parts) by A J Silver

h) Hie Away! (three parts) by Sir Hubert Parry

2) Be able to read a simple unison song set by Examiner.  Tonic Sol-fa allowed, but extra marks given for reading from notation.

1924 POR - Choral Patrol Badge


This badge may be sewn on to the Patrol colours where at least two thirds of the Patrol have passed the following tests: 

a) Sing four of the following, of which two must be part songs: 

We'll get there in the morning by C.H. Parry, Eight Nursery Rhymes by Walford Davis, Sweet and Low by Geoffrey Shaw, The Song of Shadows by Armstrong Gibbs, The Little Sandman (Arranged in 3 parts by J. West) by Brahms, Old National Airs with Descant by N. Gatty and Alan Gray, Peter Piper by Frank Bridge.

b) Two rounds (own choice).

c) Be able to read a simple unison song set by Examiner.  Tonic sol-fa is allowed, but extra marks given for reading from notation.

1930 POR - Choral Patrol Badge


This badge may be sewn on to the patrol colours when at least two-thirds of the patrol have passed the following tests: 

1) Sing two of the following part songs: 

The Lark's Grave by Stanford (Curwen, 71037)

Song of the Lumber Men by Holst (Arnold 123)

Requiem by Paul Edmonds (Curwen 71533)

Twelve by the Clock by Lloyd (Novello's School Songs, No. 731)

Fly, Singing Bird by Elgar (Novello's Trios, no. 307)

2) Sig one of the following unison songs: 

Worship by Geoffrey Shaw "Musical Times" (Novello, No. 967)

Our love goes out to the English skies by Purcell (Stainer and Bell Choral Library, No. 163)

Pilgrim Song by Dunhill (Arnold No. 155)

The Agincourt Song by M Shaw in "Songs of Britain" (Boosey) or G Shaw (Curwen, No. 61007)

3) Sing two folk songs (one unaccompanied) of their own choice.

4) Sing a canon or descant, or if a Welsh patrol, Pentillion.

5) Be able to read a simple unison song set by the examiner.  Tonic Sol-fa allowed, but extra marks given for notation.

N.B. - Extra marks to be given for singing from memory in items 1, 2, 3 and 4.
