1929 (July) - Hints on Girl Guide Badges 12th edition - Choral Patrol Badge

1) Patrol to be able to sing and recognize the following:
Perfect 5th, Major Common Chord.  Perfect 4th, Minor Common Chord.  To know, as unfinished chords, Dominant 7th, and to know when they are resolved on the piano.
2) Sing a Folk Song out of one of the following books: "Folk Songs" (Cecil Sharp and Vaughn Williams), or "Songs for Girl Guides."
3) Sing one song, other than a folk song, from the "Fellowship Song Book" (Walford Davies), or "Songs for Girl Guides."
4) Sing one of the following rounds: 
No. 44.  Adieu, Sweet Amaryllis.  (Anon.)
No. 75.  Hey ho, to the Greenwood (Byrd)
No. 7.  Sweet, lovely, chaste.  (Jones of Nayland.)
("The School Round Book." Novello, 1s.)

1930 POR - Choral Patrol Badge

1939 POR - Camp Fire Badge


1) Sing two contrasted songs, one of which should be in parts.

N.B.: This badge may be awarded on a Certificate of a Federated Musical Competition Festival. 

This badge may be sewn on the patrol flag when at least two-thirds of the patrol have completed.

1943 POR - Camp Fire Badge


1) Sing two folksongs, one from the music of her own and one from another country.  (A folksong may be defined as one of which the composer cannot be traced).

2) Sing a two-part song, a descant and two rounds.

3) Sing Taps and one verse of God Save the King. (Additional marks will be given if Taps is sung in parts.)

4) Each Patrol taking part should contribute, to the programme, an item other than singing.

1947 POR - Camp Fire Badge


1) Sing two folksongs, one from the music of the company's own and one from another country.  (A folksong may be defined as one of which the composer cannot be trained.)

2) Sing a two-part song, a descant and two rounds.

3) Sing Taps and one verse of "God Save the King".

4) Each Patrol taking part should contribute, to the programme, an item other than singing.

1950 POR - Camp Fire


1) Sing two folksongs, one from the music of the company's own and one from another country.  (A folksong may be defined as one of which the composer cannot be trained.)

4) Taps and 'God save the Queen'.

5) An item other than singing contributed by each patrol.

A certificate is awarded to companies passing this test in place of individual badges.

1962 (June) POR Amendments - Camp Fire


Give a short camp-fire programme to include:

1) Two rounds or cannons.

2) Two songs with descant or second part.

3) Two traditional folk-songs (at least one to be of the company's own country).

4) Taps, sung n parts, and a vesper.

5) Some item other than singing (e.g. mime, instrumental music, storytelling, dance, spoken word).

Note: Some Patrol items should be included in the programme.

A Certificate is awarded to companies passing this test in place of individual badges.

1964 (March) POR - Camp Fire


Give a short camp-fire programme to include:

1) Two rounds or cannons.

2) Two songs with descant or second part.

3) Two traditional folk-songs, one from the company's own country and one from another country.

4) Taps, sung in parts, and a vesper.

5) Some item, other than singing (e.g. mime, instrumental music, story telling, dance, spoken word).
