Proficiency and Interest Badges
From the start of Guiding in 1910, Proficiency badges, later called Interest badges, were introduced to encourage the individual members to develop skills of their choice, in their free time, and to earn badges once they reached a proficient level. Over the years the badges have gone through various updates, with badges being introduced, altered, and dropped. On this website, I hope to collect together details of the badges, when they were around, and what girls had to do to earn them. As exact start/end dates can be difficult to trace, what will be provided are 'snapshots' - what the syllabus was in a particular year, according to an authoritative source.
PLEASE BEAR IN MIND THAT THE ORIGINAL WORDINGS OF THE SYLLABUSES WILL BE USED. AS A RESULT THERE IS TERMINLOGY WHICH CAN CAUSE OFFENCE IN MODERN TIMES, SUCH AS REFERENCES TO DISABILITY. THESE ARE RETAINED FOR AUTHENTICITY, AS I TAKE THE VIEW WE SHOULD ACKNOWLEDGE THE TERMINOLOGY WHICH WAS USED IN THE PAST, RATHER THAN CENSORING IT. HOWEVER IF THERE IS A RISK OF OFFENCE BEING CAUSED, PLEASE ACCEPT APOLOGIES.

As you will appreciate, a site of this size does come at a financial cost, which currently comes out of my own personal pocket. Because of this, I have included a button below which people can use should they care to make a donation towards the cost of having the website hosted, and research work to add to it.
